Working in the field of Urologic & Gynaecologic Oncology for more than 35 years and have contributed significantly to the development of these specialties in India.
Among the most experienced cancer surgeons in India and have a large experience in treating these cancers.
Have been involved in development, standardization & popularization of all the latest “state of the art” surgical procedures pertaining to urologic & gynaecologic cancers in India.
Co-ordinated the first trial with intravesical BCG in India and the first trial with Danish 1331 strain of BCG in the world. The findings of the study were hailed as “of major importance to world health”.
Emphasis on personalized or individualized treatment with the aim of organ, function, fertility and quality of life preservation and reduction in morbidity.
Proponent of evidence based multidisciplinary management, for optimizing outcomes.
Urological cancers: Nephron sparing surgery for kidney cancer, multidisciplinary management including aggressive surgery for bladder cancer, robot assisted prostate cancer surgery, fertility preserving surgery for testicular cancer and organ preservation strategies in penile cancer.
Gynaecological cancers: Radical hysterectomy for cervix cancer, ultraradical surgery for ovarian cancer (one of the very few centres in India doing this surgery), HIPEC, sentinel node biopsy with individualized surgery for endometrial (uterine) cancer, sentinel node biopsy & conservative surgery for vulvar cancer, exenterative surgery.

Research Papers & Publications

More than 200 scientific publications based on large database of patients and outlining innovative & new approaches, mainly in peer-reviewed journals and 17 book chapters. Published the national level Management Guidelines for Urological cancers and Gynaecological cancers at Tata Memorial Hospital.
Have conducted and participated in numerous clinical, epidemiological, and basic & translational research trials pertaining to urological and gynecological cancers.
Formulated and published the first consensus and recommendations in the management of prostate cancer from India.
On the Editorial Board of several journals and a reviewer for many more.
Delivered 14 prestigious orations & keynote addresses. Delivered more than 500 lectures and moderated several symposia, panel discussions, and debates.
