He completed his undergraduate medical training from Government Medical College, Mysore. He went on to obtain Basic Surgical training followed by Diagnostic and lnterventionalRadiologytrainingin UK.In 2002, he joined the lnterventional Radiology team in John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals, Oxford, UK, where he spent one year training in all aspects of lnterventional Rad iology . In 2003 he was appointed as Consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, UK where he set up a dedicated department of lnterventional Radiology . He now has an experience of over 2500 major interventional radiology cases. He was an advisor for interventional Radiology for NICE,UK from 2007 to 2010. Dr. Uthappa has an extensive research background with more than 30 publications and scientific articles, numerous abstracts and presentations at various national and international meetings to his credit. He is an expert in all types of interventional radiology procedures for liver cancer and these include Percutaneous Ethanol Injection (PEI), Radiofrequency Ablat io n (RF), Conventional Transarterial Chemoembolization (cTACE,) DC bead embolisation, Portal vein embolisation and Radio embolisation(SIRT).
