‘COMPLEMENT DEFICIENCIES IN A COHORT OF PEDIATRIC ONSET LUPUS: A PRELIMINARY STUDY FROM A TERTIARY CARE CENTRE IN NORTH INDIA’
Study of complement components C1q, C2 and C4 was performed in 34 children with pediatric onset lupus during the period Jan 2012- Jun 13. We detected 7 children with decreased complement levels during the quiescent phase of the illness. 2 children were proven to have inherited C1q deficiency causing lupus and genetic studies revealed mutation in the C1q gene. This is the first report on inherited C1q deficiency causing lupus from the Indian subcontinent and perhaps from any developing nation. This work was presented at the 15th EULAR Conference at Paris, France. The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) organises this conference annually and this is the most prestigious conference in the field of rheumatology. I had the privilege to present my work as a poster (Poster THU0025).
This work has been published in Journal of Clinical Immunology: Bhattad S, Rawat A, Gupta A, Suri D, Garg R, de Boer M, Kuijpers TW, Singh S. Early Complement Component Deficiency in a Single-Centre Cohort of Pediatric Onset Lupus. J Clin Immunol. 2015 Nov;35(8):777-85.
D.M Thesis
“Assay of Th17 and Treg cells in children with Kawasaki disease”
Study of Th17 and Treg cells was performed in children with Kawasaki disease (KD) and compared with controls. I had first-hand experience with the use of flow cytometer while performing this study. This, perhaps is the only study on Th17 and Treg cells in children with KD in India. This work was presented as poster at PRES2016, Genoa, Italy.
